Realtime Data Overlay

Augmented reality is old news in academic circles, but a new application called Layar may well the tipping point, bringing really useful information to the mobile-device-carrying masses.

The app uses a mobile device’s built-in camera, magentometer, GPS, and data connection to determine where the user is at and what they are looking at. Then it gathers relevant geographic information and displays it over the camera image. Just watch the video.

Objectified Premiere: SXSW Film Fest ’09

The “Objectified” movie I wrote about earlier this month is officially scheduled to debut at the SXSW Film Fest in March with preview screenings in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and London which will be announced later.

HOW IT WORKS
Post your party photos on Flickr, and be sure to tag them as “bushbash09″ or “bushbashparty”. Any of these will do, but “bushbash” will NOT work. On January 20th, this site will pick up all tagged photos, creating one huge photo album of Bush Bashing splendor.

Unfortunately, we CANNOT pull photos posted on Facebook. You can link your photos to our Facebook fan page—they just won’t be part of the aforementioned splendor.

Gary Hustwit, director of the documentary Helvetica is at it again. This time he looks at the oft hidden world of industrial design in a film called Objectified wherein he talks to the best industrial designers on the planet about what goes into creating a great product.
